So-so balance

One of the most difficult things for translators and interpreters is Diploma and Transcript translation  and interpreting. They contain many words and expressions which can be understood in a wrong way. Recently, one translator translated “Tax authorities” as “Tax organs” (“organs” usually refers to the body’s organs: heart, kidneys, etc.). Few years ago the whole Internet, has been discussing the Big Four’s auditor phrase: «We have already seen your balance sheet» which had been translated to the client by an embarrassed assistant this way: “We saw your balance… So-so balance…». The occasion had arisen because of the similarly sounding words such as “sheet: in “balance sheet” [i:] is pronounced as [i].
