The branch libraries function as gateways for the immigrant community. This can not be stressed enough. We provide life skills and access to tools to help new citizens adjust to our community. Whether the materials are popular entertainment or “serious” research materials, access makes a difference for these families and their children. The branches also build the next generation of library users by emphasizing our commitment to our kids.

Thanks for the mention Gloria. Be assured that I make kids finish their homework at Brooklyn Branch and more. We have one fourth-grader who virally teaches other students how to check their library accounts and order materials. He helps his mother, who speaks English as a second language, order the books she needs for her college classes at Tri-C. This is just one example of how our kids are transmitting and transforming information. It is not all games.
