George Nemeth and Gloria Ferris recently sat down with Mike Dovilla, candidate for U.S. House of Representatives-District 10 at Artefino Art Gallery Cafe. No one understands better than Mike the daunting task that faces him given the name recognition of the sitting Congressman Dennis Kucinich, but he feels that he has been receiving some support from the business community that is proving very helpful. He mentions a few names in the podcast that would support that statement. Mike spelled out some reasons that he says shows the time is right for the challenge he has undertaken. We covered many topics in an hour over the summer sounds of sirens, laughter, and a breeze that created havoc with our Meet.The.Bloggers* sign.

Some of those topics were effective leadership, changes to the economy, immigration, and other challenges facing our region. Mike related how his first sixteen years of education centered on a three-block area. He enjoyed that area so much that when he graduated from Berea High School, he stayed in the area and attended Baldwin Wallace College. He then ventured out of Berea and jumped into public service with both feet in that great city of Washington, D.C. Mike gave us a synopsis of his tenure at the capital and how it has prepared him for his campaign and even how he became interested in public service and why he wants to be a congressman.

He began working with the Department of Agriculture, moved on to a stint with U.S. Senator George Voinovich where he learned the need to work with both sides of the aisle to pass legislation. He also worked for a time in President Bush’s administration before moving on to his last position and moving back to Northeast Ohio to take on one of the most well known names in politics. Refreshingly, Mike sees the need for good legislators, both Republican and Democrat, for us to progress as a region as well as a country. Could it be that some of our young politicians on both sides of the aisle realize that partisan politics is getting in the way and we should again become truly bi-partisan.
