Valdis Krebs, network consultant, Met The Bloggers May 31st at ArteFino Art Gallery Café, 1900 Superior Avenue, in the Tower Press Building. George led off asking for Valdis’ opinion on “the lefty-righty thing that seems to have our society so polarized today. From this, voting disenfranchisement, voting machines, NSA wiretapping, and extremist name-calling led quickly to the basic topic of social-network analysis. There’s talk here of Malcom Gladwell’s “fist story in Blink, a comparison of the Latvian and Lithuanian languages to Estonian, Hungarian, and Finnish, and an introduction to one of Valdis’ own software programs, InFlow, along with a discussion of its myriad uses. Tim Russo spent some time on Eastern European applications, Gloria Ferris brought up education, and Tim Ferris brought up “follow the money. The final part of the interview dealt with electronic music and music theory, Brian Eno, King Crimson, Roxy Music, Tangerine Dream, and Valdis’ own “No Drums, a few comments about Mark Lombardi and his hand-drawn social networks, and the idea of “The Radical Middle. When we finished, we realized we still had a lot of ground to cover, but we all might get up to speed at Valdis’ new team blog with Jack Ricchiuto and June Holley, Network Weaving.
