  4. I listened and read Paul Hackett’s MWB segment this morning. The sound was excellent by the way.

Paul came accross as a pretty good speaker, not knowing in advance what questions are going to be creates an element of tension which I think contributes to the dynamics in a positive way.

I thought that he was a very smart guy and obviously has a lot of charisma. I just thought that he did not focus as much as I would have liked on the questions that were asked except for the Iraq questions which he felt pretty comfortable addressing at great lenghts.

Most people are very concerned about Health Care and I was happy to see that Paul consider it to be an emercency. He is correct about the superior health care that is available in Europe, except for the UK which has very big economic problems financing the National Health system.
It might be good for his staff to study some of the new discussions taking place in Canada refarding reforms to take place shortly.

However I was expecting a better economic development program from him. He does have time to put something together before election time and I’m sure he will.

When you are going into politics with a new fresh face and an attitude like Paul, I think you can be a winner but he will need a coach to prepare him for the tough questions that people without mercy will ask him. Otherwise he might get killed by their manure machine that will spread a lot of crap.

I wish him well and would love to see him come back to discuss further his ideas.

  5. Daniella - I know, I know - I need to stop commenting and write my piece on the Hackett experience, but, if I might say, you are being too kind. He MUST get a clue about a few things - he needs to be specific or he needs to say, I don’t have experience about that but I hope to learn more as I travel around the state. People who know recognize when others don’t know.

Mr. Hackett presents as having all of the positive things folks attribute to him, all qualities (charisma, brains, occasional humility, assertiveness, ambition) necessary to win. I do believe he is a highly electable individual, but I have a long way to go to understanding what I’m trading in if I go with the electable new gun over the seasoned guy. I just don’t know - and I think both Hackett and Brown are going to have to address that choice.

As Dems, we should be so lucky to always have such choices.
