Live blogging Paul Hackett

Paul Hackett: Novel and economic development. Rooted in healthcare. Look to what Europe has done. Heavy industry isn;’t the industry of the next century.

@1:30 Brian - Gay issues.

@1:50 PH - Gay rights, abortion, guns all deal with privacy. Radical right has politicized it. Will support and defend has he did thru congressional race. How do we talk about this in other parts of the state? We’re too apologetic.

@7:30 Tim Russo How did you vote on Issue One in ‘04

PH - For [GN: Paul Hackett was opposed to banning gay marriage. He’s “For” allowing it]. You should call it union.

@10:30 “I don’t know anyone who’s gotten divorced because the neighbors are gay.”

@11:00 Bill Callahan - Position on don’t ask, don’t tell.

@ BT As a commander…

@12:20 Tim - Something nice about Iraq

PH - The people are great. Very much like Americans.

@13:30 PH on when we withdrawl.

@19:50 TR - You’re pushing for withdrawl, but would vote for $100B…n

@20:20 Adam Jusko

@21:30 Bill Callahan - Bush named a number—30K. Is it important to talk about suffering in Iraq.

PH - Yes and no.

@24:00 BC follows up. 20 years of debate about the Vietnam War.

PH - a foreign policy failure.

@25:10 Gerardo, NAFTA

PH - Garbage. CAFTA is insane. Demand fairness from trading policy.

@28:50 PH How do explain CEO salary?

@29:20 WalMart

@30:00 GN Leadership role models

@32:00 GO asks about George Bush and Lincoln.

@35:oo GN asked about decision to go to Iraq.

@36:50 PH if I can help kids in the Marines get home safe, I will.

@37:30 GO asks about Health Care and the European system.

@39:50 GO Kerry’s healthcare plan.

@42:50 PH - Big government doesn’t get everything

@43:30 Adam Jusko - “Sherrod Brown, why choose you over him?”

PH- rooted in the challenge in beating R. Demographics are different. Need to appeal to the swing votes. Brown has a great voting record. One of us will lose, hopefully the winner will beat DeWine. I don’t have the long voting record that’s going to get wrapped around his neck.

@49:30 Will Paul Hackett continue if he doesn’t make it thru the primary?

PH - Not driven by title. I believe that the country I’m going to leave my kids is the same company my parents left me. Would sweep the streets every day if someone told me it would make American better.

@53:30 JMZ asks about NCLB and vouchers.

PH - Vouchers bad, charter schools bad.

@56:00 GN Home schooling.

@58:40 PH No level of federal involvement is appropriate in education.

@1:00:00 PH Solution for Ohio is equitable funding. Dismantle NCLB.

@1:02:20 BC - Where do you find new federal money for shrinking cities? YMCA.

Scott Piepho asks about Schmidt.
