  1. On education reforms

What is Mr. Fingerhut’s vision for educational reform in Ohio that would breach the gap between the wealthy suburbs and the poor urban and isolated rural districts?

On what scale does he see this reform take place and how does he propose to finance it and put it into practice?

  2. Adding to that, not that there aren’t topics besides education, but since the PD published this article about Blackwell’s proposal, I’d like to get Fingerhut’s opinion on that proposal.

Here’s the PD piece from 12/6/05- sorry, I don’t know how to code it here:

  3. During the budget debate in the Ohio Senate, two Democratic alternative budgets were developed. One was put forth by the caucus. One was put forth by yourself and Senator Marc Dann. Senator Randy Gardner pointed out that the budget offered by the Democratic caucus increased direct school aid by 2.27% while the Republican plan increases direct school aid by 2.2%. Garner said “I don’t think there is any Ohioan who believes that 700 hundreths of a percent is the difference betwee a constitutional and unconstitutional system in this state. How did your budget address the issue of school funding? Do you believe you funding strategy would be constitutional?

I have a link to the video of Randy Gardner’s critque of the Democrats proposal if you need it.

  4. I hope it’s not too late, but maybe someone could throw out this question for me tomorrow:

In its 1999 Olmstead decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that keeping people with disabilities in institutions when they could receive care in the community is a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. In response, many states have developed “Olmstead plans” to move people out of institutions and into community-based settings. What is the status of Ohio’s Olmstead plan? Has Gov. Taft done enough to help people with disabilities stay out of nursing homes and state institutions?

    Thanks.
