I was really looking forward to meetin’ and eatin’ pancakes with Sherrod Brown this morning. I had hoped as well to have some good first hand information on Sherrod’s campaign for everyone. Brown who is in the opening salvo of his now-official camp…
1. Job creation in Ohio specifically; what does he intend to do to help create jobs that don’t keep people poor?
2. Homeland security: from what I recall of the federal bill, there are some unfunded mandates in homeland security. One example I can think of is the driver’s license requirements. But surely there are many other areas connected to state costs for homeland security. What is his position on the requirements and funding the means to meet those requirements?
3. Health care, CHIPS, Medicaid. How does he propose to meet Ohioans needs with these programs, or maybe other programs he has in mind, especially if job growth remains poor?
I’d like to ask Paul his response to the recent reports of private military contractors firing on unarmed civilian vehicles while driving down Route Irish.
Would he introduce or support legislation that would regulate and hold accountable such entities?
How about seeking investigations into such activity and the cancellation of contracts relative to companies involved?
Also, what is his experience (if any) with such groups in his time in Iraq?
why a Sherrod Brown / Paul Hackett primary is a go
“I like Sherrod Brown. I think he’d make a great Senator, he stands for all the right things, I’d be proud to support him. But I worry about how he will fare against Mike DeWine, whether he’s another Northern Ohio candidate who won’t be able to ge…
What actions are you proposing to ensure that the Diebold voting machines are accurate and uncompromised?
Would you sponsor legislation to create independent commissions (state and national) to thoroughly review and analyze electronic voting machines?
Would you sponsor legislation making “open source” electronic voting systems a requirement?
Many companies in the entertainment industry are initiating the stealthy installation of software to protect their digital rights (most notably, Sony). This has compromised the security of 100’s of thousands of PCs, without the consent (and in many cases, knowledge) of the end-users of the systems. What types of legislation would you endorse to protect consumers from these types of activities?
I know Paul is energy concious, I’d like to hear him expand his ideas on a comprehensive US energy policy and how such a policy would help to stabilize turmoil in the world.
There was a recent AP story about the top Ohio River polluters. Most of these industries are located in OH-2.
I wonder if Mr. Hackett has heard concerns about water quality from OH-2 residents, and if so, what are some of the things he can do as a member of Congress to improve water quality in the Ohio?
Both Sherrod Brown and Mike DeWine have supported health care and civil rights legislation important to people with disabilities. Why should disabled voters choose you over an experienced legislator with a track record of addressing their issues?
Last week, Ohio cut 2,200 openings from the Medicaid program that provides home health care to people with developmental disabilities. What would you do as senator to help these people get the long-term care services they need?
Ask how he feels about the prescription drug program in medicare, and about a nationalized health care/health insurance program.
Ask him to discuss the impact that NAFTA and CAFTA have had on Ohio, and what his plans are to combat/mitigate that impact. I’d like to hear less stuff about his Iraq service, and more about his policy preferences.
Ask him, other than Iraq, what are his three main qualifications for office-What three policy areas are you most interested in, other than Iraq? I’d really like it if he discussed domestic policies.
Do you think that there are serious problems with the American health care system? If so, please say something about what these problems are and how we should fix them.
The cost of higher education is spiraling upward in Ohio, and state support has been diminishing. Many residents of OH-2 stand to lose valuable educational opportunities.
Is there anything Mr. Hackett could do as a Senator to enhance educational opportunities for Ohioans?

Why is Hackett incapable of settling on a position regarding the Iraq War?
Does he believe that the Iraq War was illegal?
Does he believe that President Bush should be charged with war crimes?

What’s the best novel he’s read in the last ten years?
Along those lines, how’s he plan to support Ohio’s arts & writers scene?
